How do you find yourself to be successful? Why?
Success is a by product of being fulfilled. If you are fulfilled, you are successful, no matter the outcome. I have failed more than most people, but no force on Earth can stop me from trying again, that is what makes me successful.
What's the first thing you do every morning?
The first thing I do is, I bow down to the higher power who created me to thank him for this life. I follow that with an hour and a half of yoga meditation.
How did you discover your passion in life?
I discovered my passion or my dharma under fairly dramatic circumstances. I came to the US to do a PHD in genetics but one of my relatives who had promised to cosign a student loan, backed out after I got here. I had only $3,000 in my pocket, which was the semester fee. After I paid, I was left with nothing and didn’t know anybody. For the first time, I went to bed hungry. I immediately went down on my knees and started praying, meditating for hours on end day after day.
That is when, I started getting revelations of my future. That I was going to be a bridge between the east and the west. I would bring ancient wisdom into Hollywood movies through my acting, and as a content producer write books and elevate the consciousness of the planet through Yoga. Of course by living what I preach first. It has been an 18 year journey so far, teaching and speaking all over the world.
What do you do to focus on your dreams and goals?
At the end of every year, I take a silent meditation retreat, where I reflect on the all successes and failures of the past year. I then get into detailed documentation of my goals for this year. I constantly review my goals for this year and do visualizations twice in a day. I visualize and feel the outcome of my goal after my meditations. Or at times, right before I go to bed. These are powerful Yoga practices. As your goals will materialize, if you are in touch with our superconscious mind.
What's your life purpose?
My dharma as an author, speaker, coach is to help people achieve their highest potential whether attracting an ideal relationship or abundance, through practice of super-powerful yoga meditation and breathing techniques. I want to heal 15 million singles and couples with "Yoga and Love" in the next two years. And as an actor/producer I want bring to the screen stories that elevate the consciousness of the world.
What life event inspired you to discover your life purpose?
It happened in two phases first, was when I came to America in 1996 to do a PHD and I ran out of money. I had a spiritual experience which revealed my future. And again in 2007 when I lost 50 million dollars in real estate which led to writing "Yoga and Love" for the next 4 years.
What helps you to maintain your creativity?
Meditation, pranayama, intense workouts and reading.
What life lesson would you like to share with the world?
Never tie down your happiness to outer success or money. Always make your happiness non negotiable and unconditional. Know you are already bigger than all your ambitions, achievements and desires. Always follow your heart no matter how difficult.
As a child did you ever see yourself in the position you are in today?
I always knew I had something to offer to this world, just didn’t know what or how. All I knew was it was an insatiable desire to give off myself. The inspiration was always my great love for humanity, it was never my ability.
What daily habits do you partake in?
Yoga Meditation, workout, reading, power naps, laughing and watching/reading at least one inspirational thought per day. Also make sure to have two cups of masala chai every day!
How do you celebrate your achievements?
I try to do something nice for my wife as she is my greatest support, without her, I couldn’t even dream of doing what I am doing. Travel is another passion of ours. For myself, I always get a nice suit/clothes every time I do well in business.
What are your 5 best charactertisics?
Irrevocable faith in God, ambition, obsessive optimism, laughter during challenging times and my meditation practice.
What's the best advice you have ever received?
Don’t take life so seriously it is just a show.
What advice you give anyone wanting to pursue their dreams?
Know that you are here on Earth for a reason. You have something inside you which is unique and extraordinary waiting to express itself. Do not rest until you figure out what it is.
Once you figure it out, get out of your own way and go after it with all you have got. The entire Universe will bow down to man or woman with a purpose. Once you live your purpose in it is contained your dreams and fulfillment.
If you were on a deserted island what are your three must-haves and why?
A nice flat rock w cushion for meditation, ingredients to make my chai, a great boxing gym with all my weights and sauna.
The above three are what keep me happy and are my means to develop a relationship with myself. I love myself through these habits.
What have you learned about your career/business that you would pass on to the next generation?
Make your own path in life, be a rebel, get a mentor, workout a lot, read books by great minds with deep focus and concentration. Mirror what other successful people have done and customize it to yourself. Let service be at the heart of everything you do.
What was the most difficult challenge you ever faced? How did you overcome the challenge?
The most difficult challenge was, after having an intuitive experience that pointed out my soulmate to me, to believe in it. Often we have these intuitive experiences from your soul. We tend to ignore it for reasons best known to ourselves. I almost did the same, but two years prior I almost got killed in Johannesburg after having an intuitive experience which asked me not to go to a certain place. That day, I had promised myself, never again to ignore my intuition.
Lo and behold, I heard a voice, she is the one you have been looking for, again and again. I just couldn’t ignore it any longer. The whole process from the experience to sitting her down and telling her was probably the most challenging thing I have done. I had to face the greatest fear, to tell a gorgeous girl whom I hardly knew, that, she was my soulmate.
What signals do you look for to signify you are on the right path?
In Yoga tradition, we say, heart is the seat of intuition. I get a beautiful fulfilling feeling in my heart region. Once I start meditating on the feeling, the feelings become words or thoughts. I follow that with outward action.
What was your greatest pain and how did it influence your life?
The greatest pain I faced was when I lost some of my closest friends after losing their money in business. It was a horrible situation and the loss was in the millions, 55 million dollars to be exact. I have never had romantic relationship pain in my life, have been lucky there. Through losing friendship (friendship pain) taught me about relationship pain. I could connect with what is going in our society with the disease of divorces.
"Yoga and Love" happened because of this experience. After so much loss, I was looking for redemption. I wanted to give something in return to humanity hence spent writing Yoga and Love for 4.5 yrs. My hope is that book will serve as a healer. Now I am on a mission to heal 15 million singles and couples.
If you could go back and talk to a younger version of yourself, what would you say?
I would say, relationships are precious, hold onto them with everything you have got in your life.
What's your favorite quote or mantra?
Fix the inside, as day follows night, the outside will fix itself.
What's your secret talent?
I can drink unreal amounts of chai in a day! You should see the size of my cups.
